The season isn't over yet, but don't get too ahead of yourself

December 5, 2007

By Khristian Peel

Ok, the season is not over yet. As much as Eagles fans like to believe that the season is over every time we lose, it's really not over. The Eagles are only one game behind a couple of teams for the last playoff spot in the NFC. So, if they can beat the Giants, they'll be right back in the mix with a 6-7 record.

I'm not saying this will be an easy game by any means, but the Giants are definitely beatable. It's like a tradition down there for the Giants. They start off fast and then they fall off down the stretch and sometimes they miss the playoffs and sometimes they'll back their way into the playoffs because of a fast start.

Eli Manning is improving but we should get at least two picks against him next week. Their running game is not that strong anymore. Brandon Jacobs was already hurt, and against the Bears Derrick Ward was having a HUGE game but then he also got hurt, so now it's up to Rueben Droughns to carry the load for the Giants. Hopefully they won't get torched by New York's running game like they did every time Tiki Barber played against the Eagles.

I don't even see the point of making the playoffs this year though. I mean, it would be good to see us make the playoffs again, like we do every year, but does anybody really believe we're a Super Bowl team?

What is the goal when all 32 teams start training camp in the summer? To win a Super Bowl, and if nobody thinks they have a chance of winning a championship this year, it's no point of getting excited about having a 9-7 record and barely making the playffs because they are fortunate enough to be in a weak division.

We all know McNabb won't be here next year so when the Eagles play the Bills in Week 17, that could possibly be his last game, and hopefully he won't get injured again before the end of this season. If history repeats itself, he shouldn't, he made it past November without a season-ending injury and now it's December and he should be cool from now on. I'm still a big fan of McNabb. I will root for him to win wherever he goes unless he goes to the Cowboys (but that's not happening). I just feel it's time to make a change.

It's the same thing with Allen Iverson. Nobody thought he was a bad player, just it was time to look towards the future. I mean, Allen Iverson was never going to win a championship here and McNabb won't win a championship here. Maybe Andy Reid won't win a championship either because when you think he's doing an excellent coaching job, he'll make a dummb call late in the game. I could name a few but I would be sitting here typing for years.

I just don't think the year is over yet but it's no reason to get excited about getting to the playoffs because they won't do anything if they get there.
