Maybe the Birds offense isn't as good as we thought

Let's do a recap of the first quarter of the Eagles season. The first game against the Packers, they score one touchdown, Donovan McNabb looks bad, not horrible, but bad. But the one bright spot was Brian Westbrook because he looked good in this game.

In Week 2 against the Redskins, they can't score a single touchdown as Donovan McNabb and the whole offense, sans Westbrook again, looks horrible.

In Week 3, which was labeled as a "must-win", they come out and drop 42 points in the first half, 56 points in total. Everyone, including myself thought that their offense was back, because I know I felt like they were getting back to that offense that they had in 2004.

But looking at the Giants game, I'm starting to think that this offense that everyone thought was so great coming into the season aren't as good as we labeled them. Fans were saying "the offense will score points, we have to worry how the defense will do." Well, the defense didn't play horrible in the Giants game, but I know they played better than their offense.

I don't know if I want to place all of the blame on McNabb or the wide receivers, but I do want to place most of the blame on that offensive line. What happened to them, they were excellent last week after having two bad weeks in the first two games. Winston Justice giving up 6 sacks????

I know he's basically a rookie because he didn't play at all last year because of how well their starting offensive line played but no one should ever record six sacks in one game. Trent Cole was leading the league in sakcs with 5 in the first 3 games. But now that is shattered because of one big game by Umenyiora.

The receivers weren't getting open, McNabb threw a couple of bad throws, but it was mainly that o-line that cost this offense so many yards. They gave up a record-tying 12 sacks and Brian Westbrook might not have made a big difference. Westbrook does alot, but I don't think a 203 pound running back could've stopped a couple of 300-pounders runnning after his quarterback.

The one and only good thing that came from their offense was Correll Buckhalter who picked up 103 yards on 17 carries, but Kevin Curtis only had 2 catches for 21 yards after having 11 catches for 221 yards a week ago. I just feel sorry for the fantasy owners that picked him up after last week that thought he would be good.

Over the bye week, they need to get this offense together, but the coaching staff should've given Justice some help after seeing that he was getting victimized.

But the simple fact is that they've scored 9 total touchdowns this year. If I told that to anybody that hasn't followed the Eagles, I'm sure they would just say "that's not that bad", but it is bad considering that they scored 8 against a bad defensive Lions team.

The first quarter of this season tells me two things, either the offense is not that good or those 1933 uniforms really work.
