Donovan Needs to Grow Up

April 30, 2007 | By Mike Santa Barbara | Discuss

The Philadelphia Eagles surprisingly used their first pick in the 2007 NFL Draft on Quarterback Kevin Kolb.  And Donovan McNabb is not happy about it, well, we think he’s unhappy about the pick. See no one has really heard from Donovan. According to Head Coach Andy Reid he called McNabb right before they drafted Kolb, and called again afterward receiving no answer both times. McNabb apparently traded E-mails with Michael Smith of ESPN and text messages with back up Quarterback A.J Feeley. Both Smith and Feeley relayed the message that McNabb was surprised and upset at the pick of Kolb. Both contacted McNabb at the same time that Reid and the Eagles were trying to contact him. So McNabb is obviously refusing to respond to Reid and the Eagles. Now it’s been a couple days and still no public address from Donovan. Once again when something upsets McNabb and everyone is waiting for him to say something we hear from everyone but him. Monday Sam McNabb, Donovan’s father stated that he wasn’t worried by the Eagles pick of Kolb. Also that his son is employed by the Philadelphia Eagles and the moment he isn’t there are 31 other teams in the NFL that would be happy to have him and that he wishes people would just appreciate what they have. For once when something doesn’t go Donovan’s way can we hear from him? Could he stop hiding behind his Father and his silence? This looks like Eric and Carl Lindros against Bob Clarke all over again.

Donovan is having yet another temper tantrum over a non-issue. Kevin Kolb may be the future Quarterback of the Birds, but for right now Donovan you’re still the man. When healthy McNabb is still one of the best Quarterbacks in the NFL, and capable of getting the Birds to the Super Bowl once again. For once drinking the Eagles kool aid is the right way to go. Andy Reid says Donovan has nothing to worry about and he really doesn’t. The only job that Kevin Kolb is taking is Kelly Holcumb’s. Donovan needs to stop this before it turns into a monster he can’t just brush this off with the trademark smile and say all the “right things” again. He needs to come out and say this is his team and he is the starting quarterback and he’s not worried just like he has before, but this time he has to really believe it. If he doesn’t and this kind of attitude continues you have to wonder what McNabb’s ability to lead is. How can he be the leader of this team on the field and in the locker room? How can he handle the pressure to win if he’s worried about Kevin Kolb? His teammates may be wondering the same thing. So Donovan snap out of it, shape up, go out there and lead your team and stop whining.
