Wagner Insults Phillies Fans Again

Do you hear a voice coming from about one hundred miles up I 95?

No it’s not Elmer Fudd.

Listen a little closer and you will recognize the voice of former Phillies closer Billy Wagner, once again criticizing the baseball fans of Philadelphia. This week's gem had Wagner calling the Phillies the best team in the NL East on paper, with the fans being the Achilles heel of the team. “It's just a tough environment. Nothing is close. That team's biggest challenge will be playing at home. Their personnel is great, but it's a tough city to play in. They can't get off to a bad start.”

This is coming off of quotes from last season. "It's easy to come in there as a visiting player when you're only there for three days," Wagner said. "But 81 days, that's different.” "People there expect you to perform, and when you do perform, they're still on your (butt). In Philly, you can't have a good enough year. It's different in other places. In Philly, you should never give up a run or you should hit a home run every time up. When you're booing Mike Schmidt -- come on."

Very funny coming from a man who supported Larry Bowa. Larry Bowa is Philadelphia. He is a mirror image of the fan base’s mentality. To take it even further; we no longer really care about the hard working “dirt on their sleeve” player like we did ten years ago. We just want to win, plain and simple, whatever or however it gets done. We are starved for a champion. Those seemed to be the qualities Wagner appreciated about us when we traded for him. Wagner also had the treat of watching Pat Burrell flounder time and time again while the fans supported him blindly, strikeout after strikeout. The baseball fans of Philly did nothing but support Wagner as well. He was an instant star. The fans even played a game of boo/ cheer when Wagner hit 100 mph on the radar gun. It was so clever, and so funny. That has now been transformed into booing Wagner when he didn’t hit 100. It was a game Billy! Now that he’s a Met, Wagner continually stabs his supporters in the back.

Billy, you better hope the Mets get off to the good start you were talking about with the Phillies. If you think we are too critical, wait till things in New York go bad. Ask Alex Rodriguez about that one. Mr. Wagner will most likely see the true bad side of Philadelphia fans this upcoming season. With the bullpen in striking distance, the Philly fans will surely let Billy know what they think of him. Just remember two things; there are children around so hold the profanities to a minimum, and please, please, please don’t throw objects. The fans of Philadelphia are just like Terrell Owens and the media. We are on double secret probation, one bad move and we’ll be splattered all over every news outlet with references to bombing Santa with snowballs and shooting flare guns off during football games. Wagner doesn’t need any more ammunition. So be nice to Billy, but not that nice. He is a Met.
