3-0? That’s the best they could come up with the Monday Nighter? While I didn’t see the end of the game, I was kind of hoping someone on the sidelines would have asked a player this question…
“Was it fun?”
That player may have answered that it was slow, or that it was hard, but fun?
When I was a kid, the worse the weather was the more fun we had. You get heavy rain, mud and/or a fresh snowstorm back in the day, the phones starting ringing and the kids came out to play. Everybody wearing layers of their worst clothing. Within two plays, everyone‘s weight had doubled like a new sponge.
Nonetheless, the Steelers won a nutty one (didn’t cover), and I for one have now reached agreement with a new quarter for next Monday night’s game.
Thursday Night
Green Bay at Dallas: I don’t know what everyone else is talking about, I have the NFL Network here at work, and so I’ll be tuning in Thursday night. First half on TV, second half on the radio (660 WFAN NY) on the drive home. Favre has never won in Dallas in eight lifetime starts. The Packers defense is a bit stronger than Dallas, but Romo runs a more balanced attack for Big D. Number is probably dead-on though. I’ll take Dallas at home and lay the number… Cowboys 29 - Packers 21.
Final Score: Dallas 37 – Green Bay 27.
Sunday’s Games
Atlanta at St. Louis: Hunch play #1. I’ll go with the Rams, even though Mark Bulger took another for the team last week, and is out with a concussion. They were one play shy of winning their third straight, and face nowhere near the caliber team in the Falcons on Sunday…
Rams 34 - Falcons 19.
Buffalo at Washington: The thoughts and prayers of the football world are with Sean Taylor’s family, and the Washington Redskins. When I first heard of the news, unfortunately the first thing that crossed my mind was either Taylor was up to no good, or his past caught up with him. As things unfold, the latter may come to light. Even when folks are able to turn over a new leaf, poor choices of their past seem to linger on. Let that be a lesson to all you young guys with tons of talent. As for the game, I have no idea how anybody responds…
Redskins 17 - Bills 14.
Detroit at Minnesota: When was the last time this game mattered? Looks like Adrian Peterson will try to get back on the field, which can only be a good thing for the Vikes, who are 3-1 their past four games, and in the hunt along with Detroit for a Wildcard spot. Lions have lost three straight, and play lousy defense on the road….
Vikings 24 - Lions 20.
Houston at Tennessee: Hunch Bet #2. Titans have won the past five meetings, including a crazy come from behind win in Texas a month back. Titans have gone 2-2 since then in three road games, and are now back on the road again. Who writes their schedule? Could be wrong here, but something seems awry with Tennessee lately. They’ve seemed to have lost that ability to win ugly. They could get the victory here, but Houston’s offense seems to be improving…
Texans 23 - Titans 21.
Jacksonville at Indy: Hunch Bet #3. The more reps Peyton Manning gets with his 2nd team skill players, the better the offense gets. Throw in the fact that the Colts completely dominated Jacksonville on their home turf a month ago, and I see a repeat performance…
Colts 26 - Jaguars 16.
Jets at Miami: Hunch Bet #4. No way! I’m not buying that the Dolphins get the monkey off their backs at the expense of my sucky team! Everybody knows the Jets own Miami, I don’t care if Dennis Bakay and Chris White line up as wide-outs on Sunday!…
Jets 26 - Dolphins 21.
San Diego at Kansas City: Typical Herm Edwards ‘wheels falling off’ season for KC again. No running game, no passing game, and a defense that is playing a lot of minutes. Chargers laid the wood to Baltimore’s defense last week, and will continue that momentum Sunday…
Chargers 34 - Chiefs 20.
Seattle at Philadelphia: Eagles played a nice game last week, as Coach Reid coached to win, and not to lose. I think they continue the offensive continuity with Feeley, and make rather easy work of Seattle, a poor road team. Is it me, or does it sound a lot like McNabb is a healthy scratch here?…
Eagles 27 - Seahawks 17.
San Francisco at Carolina: Geez, do I have to? Panthers have covered an astounding nine of the past ten meetings between the two. When you have nothing else to go on, that’ll work…
Panthers 10 - 49ers 7.
Tampa Bay at New Orleans: No question as to who the better team is here. If you throw out the miracle 2006 season for the Saints, the Bucs have won five of the past six meetings, with the travel team for some reason an even better play…
Buccaneers 23 - Saints 16.
Cleveland at Arizona: This one ought to be fun to watch (did I just type that, or was that my inner monolog?). Arizona made the San Francisco offense look like a powerhouse last week. What are they going to do with Derek Anderson and his 22 TD’s? Cleveland is the more complete squad now, and are making their first serious playoff run in years…
Browns 38 - Cardinals 34.
Denver at Oakland: Hunch Bet #5. Spread a little lighter then I would have thought, perhaps in response to the Raiders unlikely win last week at Arrowhead. Broncos coming off a tough loss, but the Bears showed unusual inspiration last week, making that a tough place to pick up the W. Never any love lost between these two. I think the Broncos come out very focused, looking to get back in the AFC West race…
Broncos 24 - Raiders 17.
Giants at Chicago: Giants might be in some trouble here. They reverted back to weeks one and two, and the offense couldn’t shoot themselves in the foot enough in a week 12 shocker at home. Bears may have gotten a huge shot of momentum with the come from behind thriller last week. Don’t like the game from a wagering standpoint, as you really have no idea who shows up. I’ll go Bears to further complicate the NFC…
Bears 22 - Giants 20.
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh: Hunch Bet #6. I don’t care who Cincy beat last week, they will become re-educated with their losing ways when they visit Pittsburgh this week. While the visiting team in this long running AFC rivalry has been a very solid play as of late, the Steelers at home, in December are too tough to bet against.
Steelers 37 - Bengals 24.
Monday Night
New England at Baltimore: The coin flip… Tails = Patroits. The almighty 2007 Idaho State quarter felt very confident in laying the twenty points, against a decent defense and horrendous offense. The dudes in the ugly purple uniforms don’t hit pay dirt Monday night…
Patriots 24 - Ravens 3.
